Anglo-French financier Sir James Goldsmith has told Pan Am Corp. that he no longer wishes to invest in the company’s financially troubled airline, a Pan Am union official said. Margaret Brennan, chairwoman of the Joint Labor Council, a coalition of Pan Am’s five unions, said Goldsmith wrote a letter to Pan Am Chairman C. Edward Acker affirming the unions’ contention that “Pan Am’s problems can be solved only by a total restructuring and not by labor concessions alone.”
