Four members of the environmentalist group Greenpeace occupied a toxic waste ship for several hours Thursday, stopping it from making its daily dumping trip out of the Spanish port of Huelva.

A Greenpeace spokeswoman said the protesters boarded the vessel Nerva from a rubber launch. Two of them chained themselves to the anchor and the jetty where the ship was docked, while another climbed the ship’s mast and the fourth stood guard over the dumping pipes, she said.

The four ended their protest when police arrived, cut the chains and told them to leave.
