Nomination of Judge Bork

Share

I believe that the left-wing elements in this country are making a mistake in opposing Bork. Even if they are successful, which appears doubtful, it is virtually certain that they will simply face additional nominees which are equally unattractive to them.

The probabilities are overwhelming that Reagan’s successor will be a Republican who holds similar views with respect to judicial appointments.

The slim prospects that the Democrats have of capturing the White House in 1988 will be further diminished if they turn the confirmation hearings into a partisan attack on Bork.

The liberals have to realize that their dominance of the Supreme Court is coming to an end. The only practical thing that they can do about it is to allow the Democratic Party to make the adjustments that are necessary to allow a Democrat to be elected President.
