Apparently all that buzz about Madonna remaking the classic Marlene Dietrich vehicle “The Blue Angel” into a modern laugh riot may not be much more than talk. But singer Julia Migenes-Johnson--last seen as a simmering Carmen in “Bizet’s Carmen” directed by Francesco Rosi--actually is updating “Blue Angel.” Shooting begins on “Berlin Blues” (as it’s been titled) in Madrid and Berlin on Oct. 12, with Emiliano Miano as producer (he also produced Migenes-Johnson’s “Carmen”) and Ricardo Franco directing. The revamped score has been written by Lalo Schifrin, and Migenes is working with Paula Abdul on the choreography. Nicol Williamson is co-starring in the Emil Jannings role.

Transit Film in Munich, West Germany, has taken issue with a Sept. 7 Morning Report item about the making of a film partially based on the classic “The Blue Angel.” Karl Woerner, the company’s chief executive, asserted in a telex that all rights to the characters and plot of “The Blue Angel” are held by Transit Film in trust for the West German government and that these rights are now in the temporary possession of Allan Buckhantz of Beverly Hills. Buckhantz, in a separate statement, said the only authorized remake, partial or otherwise, is being developed by Diane Keaton for 20th Century Fox. “Berlin Blues,” a film using a similar plot to “The Blue Angel” is being produced in Spain and Berlin, starring Julia Migenes-Johnson. Shooting is scheduled to begin in Madrid next week. “Berlin Blues” producer Emiliano Miano was unavailable for comment, however.
