A 31-year-old former Marine waltzed and strutted through the second day of his 16-day attempt to dance into the Guinness Book of World Records in the lobby of the Sheraton at Redondo Beach. J. C. Stare, an aspiring New York City actor, said he was combining his quest with an effort “to create a lot of awareness for the AIDS Walk Los Angeles.” That is a fund-raising walkathon planned for Sept. 27 in Hollywood. To break the record, he must dance more than 375 hours with no more than a five-minute break each hour, according to Steve Bagish, media liaison for Sheraton Hotels, which is providing the dancer with food, lodging and transportation to a different Sheraton every few days. Stare will next be taken to the Sheraton Plaza La Reina near Los Angeles International Airport, Bagish said, adding “even as he’s transported, he has to be dancing in the van.” During his first 30 hours of fancy footwork, Stare took only a total one-hour break, Bagish reported: “He’s doing fine. His legs are a little tired, his joints are creaking, but he’s taking his pace nice and easy.”
