More than 100 foreign lawmakers called for free elections and denounced human rights abuses in Chile as they ended a three-day meeting in Santiago organized by opponents of the military government of President Augusto Pinochet. The legislators also protested actions by police, who sprayed several delegates with tear gas after arresting exiled Socialist Sen. Erich Schnake, who had returned illegally from Spain to join the meeting. The lawmakers included about 40 representatives of European parliaments, more than 60 delegates from Latin America and two U.S. congressmen.
