7,000 Foreigners Studying in China
More than 7,000 foreigners are studying in China this year, the newspaper People’s Daily reported Thursday.
China has 59 schools that accept foreign students, the newspaper said. Many come from African and other Third World nations. Most foreigners study the Chinese language, but some specialize in economics, engineering, Chinese traditional medicine and architecture.
About 35,000 foreigners from 114 countries have studied in China since 1950, according to the newspaper. The People’s Daily did not give any statistics for last year, but earlier reports said there were about 10,000 foreign students in China in 1986.
