PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Evan Mecham is part of the entourage that welcomes the Pope to Phoenix on Monday. And he was asked Thursday what he will say to John Paul II.
“Golly, I don’t know,” Mecham replied. “I don’t know whether he speaks English or not. The right things will come. We’ll welcome him, that’s one thing.”
The Pope speaks seven languages, including English.
