Rapist Loses Bet--He Got Only 45 Years

OLATHE, Kan. — A convicted rapist pleaded unsuccessfully with a state judge to add one more year to his 45-year prison sentence so he could win a bet with an inmate in the county jail.
Neil Jones, 32, told Johnson County District Judge Gerald Hougland on Friday that he was not satisfied with the 45- to 60-year prison sentence handed down after Jones was found guilty of five felonies, including rape and kidnaping.
Jones told the judge that he needed an extra year added to his minimum sentence to win a bet he had made with a fellow inmate. Jones reportedly bet his colleague that he would receive at least a 46-year sentence.
Hougland denied the request, saying he would not be part of the convict’s antics.
