The Pasadena, the Navy’s newest nuclear submarine, was launched in Groton, Conn., as Adm. Carlisle A. H. Trost, chief of naval operations, dismissed a report in Jane’s Fighting Ships that called Soviet subs superior to U.S. boats in all areas by saying the Soviets have borrowed liberally from U.S. technology. The 360-foot, 688 Class Pasadena is the third vessel named for the California city. A handful of war protesters watched the launching from the shipyard gates.
