Liv Ullmann was in Jerusalem over the weekend to attend the premiere of a film she stars in about the life of Ida Nudel, a Soviet Jew who has been seeking to emigrate to Israel for years. “First and foremost,” Ullmann said, “it is a reminder that not only Ida Nudel but thousands of people are still wanting to leave the Soviet Union. We are waiting for (Soviet leader Mikhail) Gorbachev to live up to his words that there is glasnost , there is freedom and openness in his country.”
