The International Monetary Fund is forecasting economic growth of 2.6% for the industrial world next year, up slightly from 2.4% in 1987, according to Reuter news service sources. The IMF increased its 1988 prediction for the United States’ growth rate to 3.1%, up from an earlier estimate of 2.7% and the expected 1987 growth of 2.4%.
