Demonstrators penetrated tight security at a concert hall in Linz, Austria, to greet President Kurt Waldheim with a chorus of boos and whistles as he opened a music festival. The small group of protesters held up banners saying “We Need an Anti-Fascist” and showered leaflets into the audience before being bundled out of the hall. The former U.N. secretary general’s 15-month-long presidency has been marked by demonstrations in the wake of allegations by Jewish groups that he was involved in Nazi war crimes. He denies the accusations.
