Argentine President Raul Alfonsin dropped five Cabinet ministers in a government overhaul prompted by the midterm election rout of the ruling Radical Civic Union party. The president’s most controversial Cabinet member--Economy Minister Juan Vital Sourrouille--retained his post, however. Cabinet moves had been expected since the party’s stunning defeat on Sept. 6, in which the opposition Peronists won a plurality of votes for the Chamber of Deputies and 16 of 22 provincial governorships. Sourrouille has renegotiated Argentina’s burdensome foreign debt twice, but, to the dismay of voters, inflation recently has spiraled.
