Indonesia to Broadcast Soviet TV Programs
Staunchly anti-Communist Indonesia will broadcast television programs from the Soviet Union, the official Antara news agency said on Friday.
Information Minister Harmoko told reporters after returning from a 10-day trip to the Soviet Union that he had signed an agreement to exchange programs. Harmoko said the Soviet television shows will be about economic and technological developments in the Communist nation. He did not say when they will start.
The Soviet Union was Jakarta’s biggest aid donor in the early 1960s, but ties cooled after an abortive leftist coup in 1965 that brought retired Gen. Suharto to power. Soviet ties with Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asia, have improved over the last three years, and Harmoko is the third Cabinet minister to visit Moscow in three years.
