The New Orleans police-corruption movie “The Big Easy” took on a touch of reality last week. Veteran New Orleans policeman Sgt. August Krinke was charged on 20 counts of public payroll fraud for allegedly getting paid twice--from film makers and the city--for doing the same job. The charges were leveled in connection with the 1983 filming of Clint Eastwood’s “Tightrope” and on a 1984 film, “French Quarter Undercover,” starring Michael Parks. If convicted, Krinke could get up to two years in jail and a $1,000 fine for each of the 20 counts. The indictment is the second in a month related to police and film making.
