NORFOLK, Va. —
The Navy said today it is investigating the deaths of two sailors whose bodies were found in a remote compartment of their ship, the guided missile cruiser Thomas S. Gates, shortly after the vessel left port to begin maneuvers off the coast.
Officials have been unable to determine if the deaths were accidental or the result of foul play. The identities of the men were being withheld until relatives are notified, said Lt. Cmdr. John Lloyd, a spokesman for the Atlantic Fleet Surface Force.
