Soccer fans in Kiev, angered by their team’s loss to a Moscow team, attacked a train carrying Moscow players and fans, hurling bottles and rocks and smashing windows, the Izvestia daily said.
The Spartak team defeated Kiev Dynamo, 1-0, Sunday night in a game in the Ukrainian capital that was televised nationwide. Afterward, Izvestia said, Spartak players were whistled at in derision as they drove to the train station and eventually a brawl broke out.
Uniformed policemen were at the scene but appeared confused by the violence and did nothing to stop it, the government paper said.
