Carson : Council Changes Meetings

Share

The times are a-changing in Carson.

The City Council decreed that the time and day of council meetings, which have been held at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of every month since the city was incorporated in 1968, will be changed to 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays.

The measure will take effect Jan. 5.

City Administrator Dick Gunnarson said the move would give council members and the public more time to analyze agenda items and material.

But Mayor Kay Calas, who abstained on the vote, questioned whether that was the real motive. “All the men will be happy with Tuesday because they watch Monday night football,” she said. “I don’t watch football,” said Councilman Mike Mitoma, who voted for the measure along with Sylvia Muise and Tom Mills. Councilwoman Vera DeWitt, who had unsuccessfully urged that the council survey public sentiment before voting, cast the only vote against the measure.
