UCSD’s Soccer Team Beats Azusa Pacific, 1-0

UC San Diego’s defense played so well in a 1-0 nonconference soccer victory over Azusa Pacific Wednesday that Triton goalkeeper Greg Stadler could have taken the day off.

Azusa Pacific got off only three shots the entire match--none of which were on goal. Stadler registered a shutout without making a save. UCSD (3-1-2) has three shutouts and has allowed only three goals in six matches.

The Tritons, ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division III, got their goal from Johnfar Kerlee at the 66-minute mark. Azusa Pacific fell to 2-4.

UCSD next plays host to Biola Friday at 6 p.m.

Point Loma Nazarene 1, Redlands 0--Point Loma’s Corey Junson turned back 15 shots to help the Crusaders, playing at home, improve to 3-1-1. Steve Cokkinis scored at the 54-minute mark. Redlands is 0-5.

San Diego State 2, UC Santa Barbara 0--Felipe Hernandez recorded his sixth shutout of the season and Chris Keenan and Pat Henderson scored goals to lead the Aztecs (6-2) at Aztec Bowl. Keenan’s goal, in the 19th minute, came on a penalty kick and gave SDSU a 1-0 lead. Henderson scored an insurance goal with 10 minutes left.
