General Mills Inc. warned parents to discard or keep young children away from the “powerball” toy that comes in 15- and 20-ounce boxes of Cheerios. The ball reportedly was involved in the choking death of a 1-year-old child. Four other incidents were reported but injuries did not occur. About 10 million boxes of cereal with the ball have been sold since May. Company officials said shipments were voluntarily halted and steps were taken to remove about 5 million boxes on retail shelves or in the control of General Mills or its distributors. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the balls meet all regulations.
