A week after invitations were sent from International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, three countries have confirmed that they will attend the 1988 Olympic Games at Seoul, South Korea.

West Germany, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates said they will send teams.

The IOC sent invitations to 167 national Olympic committees one year before the 24th Summer Games are to start.

A Communist boycott threat still exists because of a dispute between North Korea and South Korea over sharing the Games, which were awarded to the South Korean capital in 1981. But such major communist countries as the Soviet Union, East Germany and China have shown little sympathy for North Korea’s call for a boycott.
