Amsterdam Seeks Cooler Cabbies

City officials have introduced psychological tests for prospective taxi drivers in a bid to find cabbies who are less rude, drive with more care and keep their temper when they are not given a tip.

The agency that grants licenses for the city’s 1,600 cabbies said Friday that the tests, which include questions to monitor arithmetic and mental stability, will give the city a less aggressive breed of driver.

“We have had far too many complaints about cabbies who drive recklessly, are rude to passengers and get very aggressive when they are not given extra money,” a spokesman said. “We hope the tests will help us find a more cool cabbie.”
