Theatrical Wins Belmont Turf Race by 3 3/4 Lengths
Favored Theatrical took command turning for home and drew away to win the $600,000 Turf race by 3 3/4 lengths Saturday at Belmont Park.
Theatrical ran second in the early portion of the race before overtaking the pace-setting Allez Milord leaving the quarter-pole. The 5-year-old son of Nureyev withstood a stretch challenge by River Memories to earn the top prize of $350,000.
Theatrical, trained by Billy Mott, was timed in 2:29 1/5 for 1 1/2 miles over the soft Widener Turf Course. He paid $4, $2.80 and $2.20.
The victory was the fifth in seven starts this year for Theatrical, and the $350,000 first prize boosted his career earnings to $1,692,627.
