At least 150 Argentine army officers from a regiment in suburban Buenos Aires confined themselves to their barracks to protest the transfer of their commanding officer. The soldiers, carrying automatic weapons, refused to leave their quarters at Tablada, the government news agency Telam said. No violence was reported. The commander, Lt. Col. Dario Fernandez Maguer, was one of the officers who took part in an uprising last April protesting trials of officers accused of human rights abuses. The transfer was ordered by Gen. Jose D. Caridi, the army chief of staff. The location of the new post was not known.
