Dow Chemical Co. is recalling its pesticide cyhexatin because of the risk of birth defects, the Environmental Protection Agency announced. The agency said it has granted a company request to cancel its federal license after laboratory tests showed the chemical, used to control mites on fruits and nuts under the trade name Plictran, caused birth defects in rabbits and could pose a risk to unborn children. The pesticide is used in California on macadamia nuts, almonds and walnuts.
