Lynwood : Nun Run to Benefit Charity

Share

For the fourth consecutive year, nuns in their habits will lace on jogging shoes and run in the St. Francis Medical Center’s Nun Run and Team Relays.

The event, which is to raise money to fight child abuse and aid poor children and their families who receive medical services at the Catholic hospital, raised more than $30,000 last year. This year’s event is expected to raise about $40,000.

Nuns, wearing the traditional coronets, or headgear with sides that resemble wings, will race around Lynwood City Park Oct. 10 with hundreds of other runners who will donate $20 each to participate in the run.

The entry fee for four-person relays, which will be run throughout the city beginning at 8 a.m., is $200. The nun run will follow the team relays.

Former Olympic star Rafer Johnson is honorary chairman of the event. Fritz Coleman, KNBC-TV Channel 4 weatherman, will host the event.
