San Diego
An undercover drug operation that began two months ago has led to the arrest of eight men, seven from San Diego, over the last two weeks for the sale of rock cocaine in Southeast and central San Diego, San Diego police said Wednesday.
Police reported that narcotics agents recovered 12 ounces of rock cocaine and $23,000 worth of assets.
The men arrested were identified as Vernon Darnell King, 23; Michael Burrell Singletary, 29; Sheldon David Singleton, 23; Rodney Smith, 25; Leon Wiley, 39; Raymond Wiley, 37, and Anthony Lamont Williams, 26, all of San Diego, and Troy Oliverum Sweazie, 21, of Long Beach.
The undercover operation targeting rock cocaine dealers is being led by Lt. Skip DiCerchio and involves agents from the San Diego County Narcotics Task Force and the San Diego Police Department.
Officials said the investigation, still under way, was triggered by a rash of drive-by shootings and gang-related violence in Southeast and central San Diego.
“We anticipate more people filling in for those arrested,” DiCerchio said. “These are just more of the continuing investigations we’re doing in the Southeast San Diego area.”
