Bork’s Supreme Court Nomination

Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) must be even more tired than The Times reported when he addressed the Republican Party convention on Sept. 26 (Part I, Sept. 27).

The dispute over the nomination of Bork is not liberal vs. conservative, as he would like it to be, but conservative vs. moderate. Wilson seems to have the peculiar view that “moderates” are actually “liberals,” and only “true conservatives” need apply.

As one of the 100 people who will decide on the Bork nomination, it is unfortunate that California’s junior senator has learned so little in five years in Washington. At least Californians are learning about his simplistic, knee-jerk conservative views before the 1988 elections.
