Bork’s Supreme Court Nomination

Share

In reading the article concerning the confirmation of Judge Robert H. Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court, I noted that the strategists in the White House “are not concerned about recent public opinion polls because it’ll be decided in the Senate,” (Part I, Sept. 29).

I guess I was under the mistaken impression that this country is supposed to be a democracy, and that the Congress and the President are there to implement the will of the people and not the other way around where government officials tell the people what they think is best for the country.

If the polls indicate by a great majority that Bork is not wanted in the Supreme Court, isn’t it up to the Senate to make sure that he is not confirmed as that is the wish of the majority of people in the nation?
