UCLA has opened a new library to store 3.5 million books and other research materials that don’t fit into the campus’ 16 older libraries.

The University of California Southern Regional Library Facility opened to library staff members in early September and is expected to be opened to the public in early November, said spokeswoman Natalie Hall.

The $15-million building, at Gayley and Veteran avenues, is the first part of a three-phase program to house 11 million books from UC’s five Southern California campuses.
