Two Soviet military helicopters strayed over Afghanistan and into Pakistan and six crew members were arrested, a Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman said. The men belonged to an army unit affiliated to the Soviet KGB secret police, he added. Presenting the six at a news conference in Islamabad, he said the Pakistani government will send the men home as requested by the Soviet government. The six told reporters they were patrolling the Soviet frontier but had strayed across Afghanistan and into Pakistani airspace in bad weather. The Pakistani spokesman said the two MI-24 gunships had taken off from Alma Ata, capital of the Soviet Central Asian republic of Kazakhstan.
