Egyptian voters gave President Hosni Mubarak, the only candidate, six more years in office by a majority of 97.1% in a referendum, the government said. Interior Minister Zaki Badr announced results of the Monday voting in a televised address to the nation, saying that about 12 million of Egypt’s 14 million registered voters marked “yes” for Mubarak, approving his nomination by the People’s Assembly, or Parliament. The turnout was almost 88.5%, he said.
