General Electric’s income was up 16% to $703 million in the third quarter, compared to the year-ago period. Revenue was up 1% to $9.4 billion. GE credited increased revenue from its financial services, aircraft engines, plastics and medical systems businesses for the improvement. The Fairfield, Conn.-based company said NBC realized a good increase in operating profit on slightly higher revenue, while consumer products’ income was flat and major appliance profit was lower due to restructuring costs.
