Local News in Brief : 10K Races Head to Head
Runners may have a choice of scenic courses on Super Bowl Sunday in Los Angeles County because of rival plans to stage 10-kilometer races.
The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce, which has hosted a race for the past nine years, has plans to stage the 10th Annual Super Bowl Sunday 10K Race, according to chamber Executive Director Ernie O’Dell. But Hans Albrecht, who has promoted the event since its inception, announced this week that he is moving the 1988 race to Long Beach.
Albrecht and the chamber, who are arguing over who owns the event and its name, both have scheduled their events for Jan. 31 and are promising flat, scenic courses along the coast that will enable runners to record their “personal best” times.
