Controls on Japanese Land Deals Proposed

TOKYO —
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party called Wednesday for strict controls on land deals to slow down rocketing land prices, party officials said.
They said a party committee proposed increased taxes on land ownership and curbs on certain sales. Residential land prices in central Tokyo have jumped 93% in the last year, and office real estate by 79%.
