Philippine gunmen killed an army lieutenant and a journalist, the second Filipino newsman slain in six days. Police said the lieutenant was shot to death by a Communist assassination squad as he walked with two classmates on a campus in Bacolod, 300 miles southeast of Manila. The reporter, who police said had been critical of the Communist rebels and had received death threats, wrote for the Manila tabloid People’s Journal. He was killed as he waited for a ride in Cebu, 350 miles southeast of Manila.
