Senate Judiciary Committee Votes No on Judge Bork
Charles Krauthammer says Justice William O. Douglas invented the right of privacy (Op-Ed Page, Sept. 20), then goes on to quote Justice Hugo Black approvingly, to wit: “I find no right of privacy in the Constitution.” What else, pray tell, is meant by the Fourth Amendment? “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated . . . “
The word, “privacy,” does not appear in the Constitution but neither does the phrase “foreign policy”--indeed, the only mention of “foreign” occurs under the powers of Congress.
