Politician’s Death Not Suicide
The principal figure in a West German “dirty tricks” political scandal died of a heart attack in his Geneva hotel room the day before he was scheduled to testify before a parliamentary panel, according to preliminary autopsy results released today.
The body of Uwe Barschel, former governor of Schleswig-Holstein state and a member of Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s Christian Democratic Party, was found Sunday in his room at the Beau Rivage hotel. The newspaper Bild had reported that the 43-year-old Barschel had taken his own life.
