A man who hid convicted child killer Elizabeth Diane Downs after she escaped from an Oregon prison last summer was ordered to serve six months in a work-release facility, while a second man was placed on probation. Downs, convicted of murder in the death of one of her children and of attempting to kill two others in a 1983 shooting, scaled a fence and escaped July 11 from the Oregon Women’s Correctional Center in Salem.
