Heather Mauro scored on a pass from Teresa Schwaar Monday to give No. 2 UC San Diego a 1-1 tie with No. 3 Cortland State of New York in a women’s soccer match at La Jolla.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed because of rain. No overtime was played.

“They wanted to play and we wanted to play (overtime),” UCSD Coach Brian McManus said “The referees said that there was no overtime in women’s soccer.”

McManus said he consulted the NCAA Division III women’s soccer rule book, which states overtimes are only for tournament matches.

UCSD’s defense allowed Cortland State (7-1-2) just four shots on goal and the Tritons (9-1-1) had 12. UCSD finished third at the NCAA Division III championships last season; Cortland State was fourth.

The Tritons will play in the All Cal tournament this weekend where they will face two ranked NCAA Division I teams. UCSD opens against No. 3 Cal and No. 10 UC Santa Barbara.
