The financial well-being of Hollywood’s television production industry is threatened by the three major TV networks and a handful of large cable-TV companies, Jack Valenti warned in a speech in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Assn. of America, told the Hollywood Radio and Television Society that unless Congress or the Federal Communications Commission acts to curb the growth and power of the corporations that control access to the medium, program producers will have less opportunity to sell their wares at a fair price. “No one is ever well, suitably or enduringly served when too much power and too little competition governs the marketplace,” Valenti said.
