Ventura Officials to Test Emergency Broadcast System
Ventura County will conduct a five-minute test of its emergency broadcast system this morning over 15 radio stations and local TV station KTIE, Channel 63.
The broadcast, which will test the emergency communications link the county has set up in case of a disaster, will interrupt regular programming sometime between 10 a.m. and noon, county officials said. They stressed that those who tune in during this time should not be alarmed to hear Ventura County Sheriff John Gillespie on the air discussing emergency preparedness.
Gillespie will explain what residents should do in case of a disaster and will keep repeating that the broadcast is only a test, authorities said.
David Loe, general manager of local radio stations KHAY-FM and KVEN-AM, which have been designated as emergency stations in case of disaster, said the sheriff will broadcast from a two-way radio in the county’s emergency operating center. The center is in the basement of the Sheriff’s Administration Building at the County Government Center.
