An unusually late run of yellowtail has been providing action for anglers fishing popular areas from Rocky Point off Palos Verdes to the oil rigs off Huntington Beach.

On Wednesday, 60 anglers aboard the First String out of San Pedro, caught 48 yellowtail in the 13- to 15-pound range at the Horseshoe Kelp area three to six miles off San Pedro, but according to landing operator Rico Curtis, there were more than 100 unsuccessful hookups.

Earlier in the week, boats fishing Rocky Point reported bigger fish breaking lines up to 40-pound test.
