Vista

An 18-year-old Michoacan, Mexico, resident was found dead Thursday by his brother, who lives in Vista, Sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Curtis said Friday.

Jose Rodriguez-Gomez left his brother’s residence in Vista about 6 p.m. for an unknown destination, Curtis said. At 9:15 p.m., the victim’s brother found him dead from a gunshot wound to the chest in the front seat of his car in the 1200 block of North Santa Fe Avenue in Vista.

Curtis said Rodriguez-Gomez was shot sometime between 6 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., and homicide detectives have no motives in the shooting.

“It’s a complete mystery,” Curtis said. “He’s only been up here about six weeks, according to his brother. We have a lot of illegal aliens in North County. I don’t know if (the victim) was illegal, but he’s an alien.”
