Whoopi Goldberg lost her bid Tuesday to halt the release of the New World Pictures release “The Telephone” on the grounds that she was not consulted on the film’s final cut. Goldberg had filed a $5-million suit in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this year, but a Los Angeles judge ruled that evidence showed Goldberg was given ample opportunity to participate in the editing and that her contract gave final cut rights to New World. The suit named New World Pictures and director Rip Torn. Goldberg’s lawyer claimed the movie, as edited, was a piece of “fluff” that would hurt her career.
