Union Pacific Corp. said earnings rose 9% to $155 million in the third quarter, before a favorable adjustment resulting from the sale of its interest in a petrochemical plant. After the adjustment, net income was $178 million. The New York firm said earnings gains in energy and its railroad accounted for most of the improvement.
