Constitutional Amendment

Share

Our early patriots did an excellent job of drafting our Constitution. They did, however, leave us with a gross violation of the “one-man-one-vote” concept of democracy. This has become obvious to me during the Senate nomination hearings for Judge Robert Bork.

While the original 13 states may have had roughly equal sized populations, such is not the case with our present 50. Thus, the two senators from sparsely populated Wyoming have the same voting clout as the two from densely peopled California in affirming or rejecting presidential nominations.

Perhaps the time has come to amend the Constitution so that the “advice and consent” duty regarding presidential appointments will be transferred to the House of Representatives where each member represents nearly equal numbers of citizens.

At least the House should share the duty with the Senate as it now shares other voting duties on legislation.
