Those opposed to cityhood for Mission Viejo certainly ought to get their facts straight before spouting off.
In the first place, no one who helped finance the feasibility study for cityhood knew how it would turn out. The fact that the Local Agency Formation Commission and county Board of Supervisors agreed with the study’s results and approved an election ought to tell something.
As for more layers of government being added to Mission Viejo, this is a specious argument. As a matter of fact, two layers of government--the Municipal Advisory Council and the Community Services District--will be eliminated and replaced by a five-member City Council.
That council would certainly be more responsible to the needs of the community than five supervisors sitting in Santa Ana, only one of whom represents Mission Viejo, along with a half-dozen other south county communities.
