Rainstorms swept across the nation’s midsection, dousing a broad area from northeastern Texas and Louisiana, across Arkansas, southern Illinois and Indiana into northwestern Ohio. The rain was heaviest along the northern Texas-Louisiana border, where Bethany, La., got 2.12 inches of rain, and Shreveport got 1.93 inches. Elsewhere, an inch of snow fell at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and up to four inches of snow was expected in northeastern Michigan. About two inches of snow also fell in Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin. Midday temperatures were down in the 30s across much of the Dakotas, the upper Mississippi Valley and Upper Michigan. Light rainshowers also dotted parts of western Arizona and southern Idaho.
